Philosophy at the Movies

'The Matrix' is one of the most frequently used films when discussing films that explore philosophical themes.
In particular it questions the certainty we have about the world around us and draws from the ideas of Plato and Descartes...there is even a book about it!

Share your own suggestions for philosophical films and briefly explain why they are.

Consider the following themes;
  • Epistemology (knowledge)
  • Ethics
  • Philosophy of Mind & Personal Identity
  • Language
  • Politics
  • Theology
  • Critical Thinking
  • Determinism....
